Artist Statement

I am interested in how technology has altered our collective reality, with a focus on food. Through the use of still lifes with a forced lens perspective, I am exploring how our relationship with technology has changed our state of consumption. Technology has impacted our relationship with food via western culture's obsession with overindulgence and its impact on our well-being.

Since I was born in 2001, technology has become increasingly intertwined in my daily life. I remember getting a blue flip phone in middle school and taking turns playing Minecraft on our family computer with my brother. Today, everything is seen through a snapshot of time; 3.2 billion images are seen every day through social media alone. As life becomes increasingly overstimulating, I step back into oil painting.

I paint still life food scenes in an effort to resist the hyperactive and overindulgent nature of consumption that social media and mass production has catalyzed through diet trends and industrialization.

Sometimes I create art just for the sake of creating art and worry about the meaning behind it later. I also think there is something sacred about painting just for the sake of painting, what I gravitate towards and scratches that itch in my brain.
